Occupancy During Openings, Closings, and Breaks
Students may request an early return to campus at the beginning of the fall semester. These requests are not automatically approved, and students need to provide reasoning for the accommodation, typically including:
- Needing to be on campus to complete an academic or athletic obligation
- Needing to attend a training or provide a service for an on campus job/position
- Experiencing an unavoidable travel conflict
Students approved to return early will receive an email with information about their move-in
Do not make travel arrangements until you have received a response, as requests may not be able to be granted.
The early arrival request form will go live on August 1st
Important Notes:
- Unapproved students found in a closed residence hall are subject to immediate removal from the building and a student conduct referral
Students may request to remain on campus for part of all of Thanksgiving break. Residents must fill out the Thanksgiving Break Occupancy Request form no later than 12 p.m. on Monday November 24, 2025.
Thanksgiving Break Occupancy Request Form
If you are an in-season athlete, you do not need to fill out this form as your coach will provide us with a roster of the athletes that need to stay during break.
Do not make travel arrangements until you have received a response as requests may not be able to be granted.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Unapproved students found in closed residence hall are subject to immediate removal from the building and a student conduct referral.
Students may request to remain on campus after the published closing date for Winter Break of Saturday, December 13 @ 8am. These requests are not automatically approved and students need to provide reasoning for the accommodation, typically including:
- Needing to be on campus to complete an academic or athletic obligation
- Needing to attend a training or provide a service for an on campus job/position
- Experiencing an unavoidable travel conflict
- You are an international student or a prohibitive distance from home
- You have an unsafe, unsteady, or unavailable home environment
Winter Break Occupancy Request Form
Students approved to return early will receive an email with information about their move-in
Do not make travel arrangements until you have received a response, as requests may not be able to be granted.

Information about staying on campus for spring break will be available 2-3 weeks before spring break begins. Please check back for more information later.
Break Housing Policies & Procedures
Approximately 1-2 weeks prior to each break, on campus residents receive a Break Housing Notice outlining the specific procedures and requirements for the upcoming break, including the deadline to register for break housing. Limited services are available during break housing periods.
- There will be a limited number of Student Living staff present on campus to address lockouts and other support requests.
- Campus Safety will remain open for emergencies.
- Dining services may be closed or have limited hours over break.
- Many other services may also be reduced or unavailable, including Mail Services, the Fitness Center, campus offices and other student support services.

Break Health and Safety Checks
All rooms will be inspected by Student Living staff during breaks to ensure compliance with closing procedures, health and safety regulations, and Student Living rules and regulations. Violators are subject to student conduct referral.
