
Utica University hosts AMC 10/12 American Mathematics Competition for second year

This marks the University’s second year holding the competition, and this year, the number of participants doubled!

On Wednesday, November 6, the Utica University Mathematics Department had the pleasure of hosting the 2024 AMC 10/12 Mathematics Competition. Dozens of New York State high school students filled the concourse in the Frank E. Gannett Library to put their knowledge to the test.
The AMC 10/12 are both 25-question, 75-minute, multiple-choice examinations in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills.
This marks the University’s second year holding the competition, and this year, the number of participants doubled!
Participating school districts include:
- Adirondack
- Brooklyn Latin School
- Clinton
- Whitesboro
- Holland Patent
- Madison Central School
- Manlius Pebble Hill School (Fayetteville-Manlius School District)
- Mount Markham
- Utica Academy of Science Charter School
- VVS High School (Vernon Verona Sherrill Central School District)
- Westmoreland

All contestants who perform well on AMC 10/12 are eligible for national recognition. Those who perform exceptionally well will be invited to participate in the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME).
Students are also eligible for first, second, and third place prizes which include scholarships to take courses at Utica University.
Utica University will hold the AMC 10/12 award ceremony in January 2025.
